it's 1131 hrs. one more hour to lunch time. the next part of my report requires a bit of thinking so i decided to fully wake up by blogging. i will now talk about wednesday.

it was a much more eventful day. morning was bad. i just read that report again, coz supervisor STILL hadn't given me any work. but while reading, one of the officers, mrs irene ong said she would take me and kelvin to go n check out an OG box. i had no idea what OG stood for. so asked kelvin. and he said it's Over Ground he thinks. but whatever, it's one of those boxes with a Power Grid sticker on it. i'm sleepy again. brb.

1201 =D. yes so the OG box is smth that distributes power to consumers like houses, shops n stuff. so she opened up 3 of them located outside the office. and it was v cool. apparently the older ones don't have any protective cover. which means no insulation! that's really scary bcoz the outside covering of the box is metallic. and the contacts inside are all made of metal. like live wires! so without insulation, IF a car crashes into the box, or smth happens that causes the live wire to come into contact with the box, the metal box would become LIVE! FATAL!! and we're talking about >400 Volts here! not a kutti 3V battery! it's so dangerous!

so that was exciting. and then, after that, we came back to the office and heard about a faulty transformer. so she said she'll take us! me, kelvin and jeffrey (NUS mech engg graduate). we went to tuas! to the ABB place. had to wear safety shoes and all :) i was really awestruck. and excited. obviously not sleepy at all!

so after we arrived, they showed us a room full of transformers. not in operation. but we were told to consider everything as live. just in case. except the faulty one which they were gonna open up. so they used this crane to take out the inside part of the transformer. and we could see the coils! so coool! and the paper insulation. we could only see the secondary coils, not primary. it was a step-down transformer. coils were made of copper. and there were 3 huge barrel like coils. coz this T/F was meant to produce 3 phases of electricity. i took a lot of photos using handphone. which came out badly, as expected. but jeff had come there too and took lots and LOTS of snaps. so can ask him if i want. but anyway, i'd never seen a T/F so up-close. awesome stuff. oh we could also see the laminated sheets of steel which acted as a metal core to concentrate the flux, etc etc, to perform the step-down operation.

and then we left that, coz there was another SP Power Grid transformer which had a burn mark inside. so they were supposed to uncoil the whole transformer until they found the burn, to investigate the cause of it :) so i saw the unwinding :) :) also saw the coiling of a different t/f. very cool man. but we couldn't wait till they found the burn coz it was somewhere DEEP inside. and it was time for lunch, so we left. and jeff, the camera man, said he'll call when the burn is nearing. but it came too late and we wanted to go home at 1730. see, i'm crapping. i'm sleepy again.

oh i'd brought food. yummy chapati and aloo gobi. but still i tagged along with them for their lunch. there was an indian stall in that telok blangah place! i should have just eaten there on monday! but dunno their menu and all. maybe someday when amma's just tooo tired to cook, i'll go eat there. so anw, lunch got over. and supervisor came in and gave me a project to do! i was THRILLED! seriously. i don't think there's anything worse than slacking without ANYTHING to do. no computer, no internet (duh. without comp?), can't sleep. work done. sigh.

anw, i was supposed to do a report which talks about transformers. ooh it's 12:31! everyone's left for lunch! i'm gonna watch smth on the laptop while eating and then sleeping till 13:31! but knowing my nonsense body, i won't feel sleepy. sigh. ok seeya later!
